A Thomas Dambo Troll is Coming to Cayce, SC

In April 2026, the City of Cayce approved an agreement with world-renowned large-scale Danish artist Thomas Dambo to design a one-of-a-kind signature troll sculpture. This work, the first of its kind in South Carolina, will be built from reclaimed materials and installed in a natural setting, complementing Cayce Riverwalk, a section of the Three Rivers Greenway, a project of The River Alliance.

This public art project aligns with the City of Cayce’s long-term economic development goals by strategically investing in tourism-driven economic growth and further defining the community’s identity by tying it to one of the metro area’s most recognized assets: its three rivers.

Most importantly, hospitality and accommodations tax revenue generated by local businesses and mandated by the state of South Carolina to be used strictly for tourism-related projects will fund the troll design and build.

Partnership

The Thomas Dambo Troll Project is a unique opportunity to create something special for Cayce and the region. As we have done with other community projects, the City is inviting residents, businesses, organizations, and supporters near and far to be part of bringing this vision to life.

The City’s longstanding partnership with The River Alliance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has helped make projects like the Cayce Riverwalk possible and will soon support the 12,000 Year History Park Visitors Center on the Three Rivers Greenway. The Cayce Troll is the next exciting addition to that legacy.

There are many ways to be part of the project, including the opportunity to make a tax-deductible contribution through The River Alliance. Every contribution helps move this shared vision one step closer to becoming a reality.

Volunteers will be needed during the installation process. Later, as details become available, we will announce how you, residents and local companies, can actually get involved in building the physical troll.
